A mysterious visitor has been hanging out in the waters off Hammerfest, Norway, in recent months. It is a beluga whale, which some believe was trained by the Russian army, from which it apparently defected.
The whale had turned up in a harness and was released by a group of fishermen and marine biologists, but she continued to swim nearby.
Despite its alleged background in covert operations, the beluga has proven to be very outgoing.
Earlier this beautiful whale made headlines when a girl accidentally dropped her cell phone into the sea and the clever creature pulled it out of the depths to return it to her.
Beluga tries to befriend a seagull
Recently, Jan-Olaf Johansen, was walking near the Hammerfest boardwalk when he saw the whale with a fascinating and very adorable behavior.
On the surface of the water was a seagull that had piqued the whale’s interest, which seemed determined to befriend it.
Johansen a The Dodo:
‘I kept trying to play with the seagull. What surprised me is how friendly he was. It was very special to see him.
Although the seagull did not seem to want to reciprocate the whale’s friendly treatment, she did not feel threatened by its closeness.
After a while, the bird flew away, leaving the whale wanting to be its friend.
Ever since the beluga appeared on the scene, some people had been concerned that it would not be able to take care of itself, assuming that it had actually been trained by humans.
But according to Johansen, who sees the whale from time to time, it seemed to be fine, and is also having a good time.
He said:
«It looks very healthy. And very playful.
The important thing is that in addition to having a good food source, the Beluga can also be calm in this place without being in danger.
