Sheryl Smith is an animal rescuer, who has provided foster care and relocation for many years, giving another chance to be happy with those animals that everyone else has given up on.
When Sheryl heard about a dog named Shiro, a dog who is deaf and partially blind, who had already been to two shelters and about 12 foster homes, and who had also been adopted and returned to shelters four times , she knew he had to help him.
He was a very anxious dog, so Sheryl immediately decided that she would make him part of her family so that Shiro would finally know what it feels like to have a forever home.
Deaf and blind dog comforts rescued animals
Everyone else had already given up on him and Sheryl, who adopted Shiro in 2018, says “we weren’t ready to do it too.”
She told The Dodo :
“To this day he cries in the car because he thinks they left him somewhere else.”
Shiro is still in the fight, but he has come a long way since his family met him.
This sweet dog has a soft spot for other animals in need, and from the moment he joined his family, he began to comfort all the other rescued animals that pass through his house.
Sheryl says that after rescuing Shiro, she rescued a pregnant dog who was too sick to take care of her puppies, so Shiro immediately joined the puppies and began cleaning them.
She said:
«He has done it with every rescue I receive. He just sits patiently with the wild cats / kittens and bonds so strongly with them that they trust him before they trust me.
Recently, Sheryl welcomed a little wild kitten, which she called ‘Tiny Tolley’, who was very ill, immediately Shiro went out to look for her and took her in.
Sheryl couldn’t believe how thin and sick the poor kitten was, and quickly began trying to take care of her to get her health back. If they had left her alone for too long, she would not have made it, and Shiro could feel that from the moment she arrived
Shiro never left his cage for a second. I knew that she was so sick and so scared and that she needed to be comforted.
The little girl began to slowly regain her strength and yet Shiro still refused to move away from her side.
Tiny Tolley continues to grow stronger and stronger each day, and as soon as she is fully healthy, Sheryl will search for a forever home for her, and Shiro will continue to comfort all the rescued animals as only he knows how.
Sheryl added:
“His love and compassion for the other rescued is amazing.”
