This cat was shaved and sold as a Sphynx or Sphinx cat.
A man calling himself Tim posted online about his interest in finding a home for the cat. But the woman who contacted him to buy the animal did not imagine that the cat was shaved to scam her.
Holly Rattray, a resident of Alberta, Canada, is a great lover of cats and it was for this reason that she decided to buy a supposed feline of the sphynx breed or sphinx cat, after a man who called himself Tim published his interest in finding a home for the cat. But what Holly did not imagine is that the cat was shaved to con her.
Rattray contacted Tim and they immediately agreed to meet in a Red Deer parking lot. The exchange was made quickly, the man counted the money and left the place, it was so much his hurry that Rattray and her husband asked for a discount and he granted it without any problem.
After a while, Holly and her husband checked the cat and noticed that she had various cuts and wounds all over her body, which had probably been made with a razor blade.
Holly said:
“When I look back at the photos, I honestly don’t know how this cat survived.”
She could not believe that this man was capable of committing such a cruel act with a cat barely eight weeks old. The feline had absolutely no fur at all and this was one of the reasons why Holly suspected it was all a scam, as Sphynx cats often have chunks of hair on their tails and near their paws.
The cat was called Stripes and she used to cry a lot, Holly and her husband thought it was because she missed her mother, but a veterinarian who has been practicing her profession for more than 20 years took care of her and affirms that she had never seen such a case and that Stripes wept in pain.
The hairless cat was adopted on October 29 and fortunately her wounds have healed and even her orange fur is growing back. She is now a member of the family.
Cat was shaved and sold as Sphynx
Holly has not been the only person scammed in this way, she got in touch with JoAnne Dyck, a woman who posted on Facebook what had happened to her when she bought a supposed Sphynx cat that she called Vlad.
Dyck had to sell Vlad after buying her days before, because Vlad did not have a good relationship with her adult cat and Shaniya Yung was the new buyer.
Shaniya Yung dijo:
I knew there was something wrong with her.
“For two or three days, it still looked like it might be a hairless cat, but then it started to grow more and more and more hair, whiskers, hair in the ears and the like.”
This woman also states that at the beginning Vlad had some wounds on his body that fortunately have been completely healed.
“It’s very good to have her,” he said. “It couldn’t be otherwise now.”
Yung is considering reporting the scam to the police and the humane society, but due to lack of time, he has not been able to do so.
“Right now, we are just taking as a kind of comfort the fact that we saved a life and that is what I am saying to my daughter. God blessed us with a different kitten, and that’s okay.
