Captain’s story is a true demonstration of fidelity and love. This dog has lived in a cemetery for 9 years, there he spends his time guarding the grave of his beloved deceased human, he is a mongrel dog with a totally pure heart. In 2005, Captain was welcomed into the home of the Guzmán family, being a gift from Damián, a 13-year-old boy to his father named Miguel.

This family lives in Villa Carlos Paz, in the province of Córdoba, Argentina. Unfortunately, Miguel passed away on March 24, 2006 and it was there that this incredible story began, which has been heard by thousands of people around the world.

Days after Miguel passed away, Captain had suddenly disappeared from his house, then he returned, sniffed every corner of it, and left again.

“For a while he lived outside, a few meters, half a block from the house,” said Verónica Moreno, who is Miguel’s widow.

Captain never returned home and his family believed that he was lost or that he had found a new home. “Until one day, when I went with my son to the cemetery, we found him there. Damien started shouting that he was a Captain, and the dog came up to us barking, as if crying, ”says Verónica.

When Miguel’s family tried to bring Captain home again, he firmly decided to stay there in the cemetery next to his human’s grave.

“The following Sunday we returned to visit Miguel’s grave and the dog was still there. That time he followed us when we returned because we had been walking. On that occasion he stayed with us in the house for a while, but later, he returned to the cemetery ”.

What is most impressive about this story is that it is not known how Captain managed to locate the cemetery in which his human was buried, since he died in the Carlos Paz hospital and his body was transferred to a wake that is very far from home. and at no point did the dog follow them to the cemetery.

Captain refuses to abandon his human even though he is no longer alive, every day at six in the afternoon, he lies down in front of Miguel’s grave and keeps him company all night.

Currently, Captain is 11 years old and has begun to have health problems due to old age, he has difficulty walking, so he does it slowly.

A few months ago he was diagnosed with chronic kidney failure  and this causes vomiting and drowsiness, even so he is still there, always faithful to Miguel. This dog should be receiving special attention due to his age, but he finds himself living like a stray.

“He has led the life of a stray dog, eating at the wrong time, a lot of bad weather, and is a very particular animal that likes solitude and always walks around with sad eyes,” said a member of FUPA.

Captain is very famous and many of the visitors to the cemetery want to take pictures with him, the media has spread this incredible, special and moving story around the world and even considered making a movie based on it.

Pablo Castro, a cemetery employee, says that the captain underwent surgery last year from his sight and has not been able to fully recover. “He looks old, but he’s fine,” he says. “In season, since he became famous, many people come to meet Captain, to visit him,” he said.

On the other hand, Héctor Beccega was one of the first to discover the wonderful story of Captain when he saw how one day he was reunited with Miguel’s family at the door of the cemetery. Now he sees him tired and says: “It seems that he wants to go with his master.”

Baccega affirmed that there is currently a proposal from the FUPA animal protection association that seeks to take a walk through the cemetery that takes people to the place where Captain is almost always, that is, next to the grave of his human, In addition, it has been considered to make a sculpture to somehow immortalize his great love and fidelity that have managed to transcend death.
