Family takes their older dog to the vet to be euthanized because they do not want to take care of him
Family decides to euthanize their older dog simply because he was too old and they didn’t want to take care of his needs
Some people abandon their dogs, just because they are too old, so they don’t have to take care of them. For this reason, Melissa, a 34-year-old woman, decided to make her dream of saving elderly dogs in need of a home come true.
Melissa lives in Conyers, Georgia (United States), in a very large house, where she created the rescue center called Old Dog Home , there they accept older dogs that need a little attention.
Some dogs that arrive, are rehabilitated to get them a home or give them the opportunity to have a lot of love in the last days of life.
Family wanted to euthanize their dog for being older
“For the dogs that come to us and can be rehabilitated and adopted, we are going to do it. We will do our best to give you an opportunity for love and a family during your later years. For those who are too old or very sick, we will be your family. They will live here until it is time for them to go to heaven.
One day, Melissa received an urgent call from a veterinary associate at Old Dog Home , giving her heartbreaking news. He told her that a man had brought his old dog to be euthanized , because he did not want to take care of her.
The dog was apparently in good health, and was totally affectionate, so the vets refused to euthanize her.Even though the shelter is full, Melissa couldn’t resist taking the dog home and named her Holly. She is 10 to 12 years old, she is very sweet and since her owner passed away she has been wandering from house to house.
This is how she ended up with her current family, unfortunately for Holly her new family didn’t love her anymore because they had two other dogs. In addition, the dog constantly urinated on the floor.
The children of the family were no longer interested in her and preferred to play with the other dogs.
Melissa wrote :
“I don’t like to criticize children, but the granddaughter looked at me and shrugged. She said, ‘We just don’t like it. We like our other dogs better. ‘ Meanwhile, the dog was standing there, wagging and wagging its tail.
Aside from some lumps and bumps on the dog’s body, Holly appeared to be in very good health and in good shape. The vets said Holly had a yeast infection, which probably caused her to urinate a lot in her last home.
At first Holly was very scared and confused, but the days passed and she began to adjust and relax in her new home. Once, Melissa wrapped Holly in blankets and cradled her on her legs to caress her, for the first time in a long time she had received love.
Melissa wrote :
“My true purpose in life is to show people that old does not mean dead… old dogs still have life and love to give. They are remarkably hardy and forgiving, and they deserve the opportunity to have a forever family as much as any younger dog.
Holly was taken to the dentist, and to have some growths removed around her eyes, according to Melissa and the medical team found a melanoma growing under her eyelid, which they removed.
Holly has recovered from her other health problems and Melissa found her a loving home where she is loved unconditionally.
She posted on Facebook:
“We had a lot of requests for Holly, and it was a difficult decision to make as to where to put her, but once we met this family, it became very clear. She has two girls now who absolutely adore her, as well as an 11-year-old doggy brother. Look at those happy faces! Her family has a farm in the country, and she has already become friends with horses, goats and chickens.
Melissa also commented that the best part of all this is that Holly’s new mom is a veterinarian, so she will have the best possible care and attention for the rest of her life. Going home to live with a vet means that no matter what your future holds, you will be in the most capable hands possible.
