Jodie is a hermaphroditic Staffordshire Bull Terrier who was rescued by the RSPCA Humane Society in Essex, England several months ago. She is 12 years old and very adorable, but still she has not managed to find a forever home where she can give all her love because people have not accepted her due to her unusual condition. Jodie is one in a million.
Kathy Butler, RSPCA coordinator, said:
“While this is not causing any problems or difficulties for her, I think it is alienating her from potential adopters. Jodie has been with us for several months and we have not had a single consultation for her, it is a shame because she is a lovely dog.
“As an older Staffie with an unusual physique, we feel that Jodie is being unfairly ignored as we have not received any interest in her relocation. She is such a wonderful dog that she truly deserves a loving and happy retirement home, where she can live her final years in comfort.

James Teates, RSPCA Veterinarian, said:
‘Hermaphrodites have two ovaries and testicles, and this is rare. Some of these animals have a mixture of genes in their cells.
“It is more common for some males to have some female genitalia and undescended testes, known as hermaphrodites.”
“But it is also possible to get some females with male organs, which would be known as pseudohermaphrodites.”
Caroline Allen is the director of London Veterinary and assures that this is a “very rare” phenomenon, also affirming that in her 19 years of practice she had never seen a case like Jodie’s.
