Jaripo is an 18-year-old Pomeranian breed dog who was abandoned in a crowded shelter in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania (USA) by his best friend, who did not care that this dog gave him his whole life, and left it when he needed it most. When people learned about his story, it went viral but no one adopted it, until a woman saw the photo of the little older dog, very sad and lonely, and ran to save him.
Jaripo’s owner told the workers at the high-slaughter shelter that the small animal was in a terminal state and that it had to be euthanized.
Before euthanizing him, the shelter workers decided to write a Facebook post about Jaripo, hoping someone would rescue the poor dog. The post was widely shared, but no one went by Jaripo.
Woman leaves everything to save a small older dog
Finally, a woman named Christina Morgan saw the picture of the sad old dog. Christina is the founder of Paw Works , an animal rescue organization based in Ventura County, California.
Paw Works rescues animals from city and county shelters and helps them find forever homes. When Christina saw the post about Jaripo, she knew she had to rescue him and bring him back to her organization.
“I get tagged in a lot of things on Facebook and I saw this little dog who was moving the net. A lot of people were tagging me. All the rescues were watching him. But no one was really taking action – and that’s a high-kill haven. “
Christina jumped into her car and headed toward the shelter. He called to tell shelter staff he was on his way. They told her that they could not guarantee that Jaripo would be there when she arrived. They said that if they needed to “put him to sleep,” they would.
She drove as fast as she could through the rain. Fortunately, when she got to the shelter, Jaripo was waiting for her. She took him home that same day.
Christina not only took Jaripo with her, she also took home four other dogs and a cat with a gunshot wound.
Jaripo will be able to live his last years in a loving home
Once Christina and her new rescuers arrived at the Paw Works , she took Jaripo to a vet. The vet said Jaripo had pain in his spine and hips, but his blood tests were fine, and he was not terminally ill as his previous owner had claimed. The old dog still had a lot of life ahead of him.
A few days after the rescue, Paw Works announced on its Instagram page that Jaripo had found his foster family forever. Jaripo loves hanging out with the people and the other dogs in his big new family.
Christina and the Paw Works team have made a huge difference in the lives of so many dogs, including Jaripo.
