Although there are many efforts by the Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) to reduce animal cruelty, there are still unsolved cases. Especially of dogs and cats that are abandoned on the streets, most of which die of hunger or disease.
Some are sent to the city’s kennels, where if they are not claimed or adopted in a stipulated time, they are destined for euthanasia.
For these reasons, an animal advocate named Maureen Lacida Claro has dedicated her time to feeding homeless dogs and cats with her personal funds.
Woman feeds animals on the street
Maureen made a post on Facebook where it can be seen that she is in her pedicab, feeding the dogs and cats that she finds in the street.
The 43-year-old animalist’s post went viral, adding that she has been feeding cats and dogs for 3 years.
Maureen told POP :
“It has been 3 years since I started feeding them.”
“At first, I was just using my own money, then there were so many to the point that I no longer reached my budget.”
In order to raise money for her cause, Maureen decided to share on Facebook what she is doing for animals on the streets.
After her post went viral, people began to take an interest in her work, so help started pouring in immediately from people who knew about the story, which made Maureen very happy.
Maureen said:
“I thought about posting it on Facebook until people started donating money for dog food and cat food. Actually, I even rescued some of them. Those who were in severe condition are being taken to a shelter, in the Fortress of Hope Shrine. “
Now Maureen is very happy to continue her work, thanks to the donations. She is grateful for the help she has been receiving, especially at this time when everything is more difficult due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Many feeders and food kiosks are closed, but thanks to Maureen and the kind-hearted people who are helping her, various animals will have something to eat in this time of crisis.
