Captain’s story is a true demonstration of fidelity and love. The dog lived in a cemetery for almost 11 years, guarding the grave of his beloved human. In 2005 Captain was adopted by Miguel Guzmán in Villa Carlos Paz, in the province of Córdoba, Argentina. Unfortunately, Miguel passed away on March 24, 2006 and it was there that this incredible story began, which has reached thousands of people around the world.
Days after Miguel passed away, Captain had suddenly disappeared from his house, then returned, sniffed every corner of it, and left again.
Captain never returned home and the family believed that he was lost or found a new home. Until one day, when they went to the cemetery, they found him there. Damien, Miguel’s son began to shout that he was Captain, and the dog came barking, as if crying.

When Miguel’s family tried to take Captain home again, he didn’t want to and decided to stay in the cemetery next to his best friend’s grave.
The most impressive thing is that it is not known how the dog managed to find the cemetery where his human was buried, since he died in the hospital and his body was transferred to a wake that is very far from home and at no time the dog he followed them to the cemetery.
Dog that lived next to its owner’s grave for 11 years dies
Captain refused to leave the cemetery and every day at six in the afternoon he would lie down in front of Miguel’s grave and keep him company all night.
The animal was around 15 years old and sick. A few years ago, he had been diagnosed with chronic kidney failure that caused vomiting and a state of drowsiness.
The FUPA organization was in charge of providing him with special and necessary food to improve his health. But due to old age, the poor Captain could not take it any longer and died last Sunday, February 18.
Cristian Stemples, the veterinarian who followed his attention, told the picture that afflicted the dog:
«He had a kidney failure that had been dragging on for 4 years and for which he received a special diet that the people of FUPA owe him. Because of his age it is more complicated so he could not resist ».
The vet further noted that the idea of him ending his days at the vet was a shared decision:
“We could have admitted him, but he had no turning back, so we preferred to attend him in the cemetery, attend him where he lived and make him feel calm.”
