The diarrhea in dogs is a common case of visits to the veterinarian at least once in life the dogs come to suffer from diarrhea because it is a very common symptom in many diseases. In this article we will explain some of the causes of diarrhea in dogs.
The food that a dog eats takes approximately eight hours to travel through the tubes that make up its intestine, so normally the body absorbs most of the water that the food contains.
Diarrhea occurs as a consequence of a change in the normal motility of the dog’s intestine which causes excess liquid to arrive from the intestinal wall and as a result there will be a reduction in the absorption of water in the final part of the small intestine, that is that food travels through the intestine with a higher speed than normal without giving the body time to absorb nutrients and water for this reason when our pet is about to evacuate, it finds stools that have much more water than normal and that have spent less time in the intestine, the end result being diarrhea.
Most cases of diarrhea are cured without the need to go to the vet since they usually last a short time. It is very important that the dog is fasting for 24 hours to wait for the diarrhea to disappear so you must remove the dry food or feed and keep it water but do not drink in quantities and change it frequently. If the diarrhea has not stopped after 24 hours, contains blood, has vomiting, has abdominal pain or swelling or if your dog has a fever and is down, you should take him to the vet immediately.
Causes of diarrhea in dogs
We must try to determine what caused the diarrhea in our dog, the usual causes of diarrhea in dogs are due to sudden changes in their diet (change the feed or concentrated food for another suddenly or change it to salt food from one moment to another ), the ingestion of spoiled food, garbage and food toxic to dogs . On other occasions, diarrhea can be caused by eating foreign objects, eating leftovers or garbage in the street, grass, sand, allergies, toxic substances, parasites, bacteria and viruses.

When your pet is better and has recovered from diarrhea, take care of him by giving him a soft diet to avoid irritating his stomach that is low in fat , veterinarians recommend giving him some boiled rice, chicken and eggs, but give him these foods only if the dog does not are allergic to them. Feed him with this type of diet for approximately 5 days since with this the stomach will recover allowing the cells of the intestine to regenerate and feed, as it is digested mostly allowing the feces that are formed to be scarce, they also recommend the water of rice to drink.
It is very important that you divide the food into several small portions daily (3 or 4 times a day) and do not worry if the first two or three days your dog does not defecate since the new diet is absorbed practically in its entirety, generating little waste. Little by little you should return your dog to his usual diet.
Do not forget that you should consult the veterinarian with all your doubts, if you are going to give your dog any medication, such as a home remedy, try to ask a specialist first.
