Many people seek to adopt their pets when they are still young, but this family adopted a 20-year-old cat and brought him home to spend his last years in a home receiving lots of love and affection.
While many people seek to adopt a pet when it is still small, this loving family adopted a 20-year-old cat named Dexter in order to give it all the love it deserved to receive in its last years of life, and so it was, this Gato was very happy and certainly left an irreplaceable place in the hearts of his family after his departure.
It all started when Jill Williams, a member of the Best Friends Animal Society , received an email requesting urgent foster homes for cats.
The woman who has a husband, four dogs and two children who were anxious to have a cat, did not know how it would turn out to bring a new member to the family, especially in the case of a feline.
Jill Williams dijo:
“We were pretty sure that even if we cared for a homeless cat, even temporarily, we would have to keep them separate.”
“We had no idea how our dogs would receive a member of the feline family.”
Jill decided to go to the sanctuary and there she was able to see a large number of cats looking for a home, at that time, the woman was considering adopting a small cat, but instead found an old toothless cat named Dexter who completely stole her heart.
“My first impression was, ‘Wow, this cat really needs a home.’
There were a million thoughts running through my head.

Family adopted a 20-year-old cat to make him happy in his later years
Jill thought it highly unlikely that a 20-year-old cat could live with four dogs and two energetic children at her age, but Dexter didn’t seem to mind this, he just wanted a home.
“Dexter was meowing incessantly, in and out between my legs, putting his paws on my legs as I knelt down.”
“OK, I was going to bring him home.”
When the woman decided to take Dexter home, she called a family meeting to explain the situation and the rules that would exist from then on.
Jill Williams’ children, JJ and Harry, who were 5 and 7 years old at the time respectively, loved Dexter from the first moment.
«JJ did not see a 20-year-old cat, with its sagging fur and a crooked smile, he saw a best friend, a soul mate, with only 5 years of age, JJ saw the importance of helping this cat, without matter their age or their appearance.
Jill said:
“In the next few days, Dexter would meow and stick his paws out from under the door.”
“The dogs were all very curious. They never seemed aggressive or anxious.
Curiosity invaded all the dogs, especially Flora, a 140-pound dog who was dying to know whose legs were sticking out from under the door.
She sniffed Dexter’s nose through the door and Dexter meowed and returned the hello gesture.
And when the dogs finally met the feline, they began to get along incredibly well.
“It was something very crazy.”
“I still can not believe it. They all slept with Dexter. He was the king.
This cat met the love of a home in his last years of life
Dexter was surrounded by a loving family for the next two years, his fur returned and he gained weight.
“He was active and loving.”
«He never acted old. Never. He loved anyone.
Until the awful moment to say goodbye, Dexter’s heart stopped beating.
“Losing a pet is never easy.”
Dexter’s farewell was very sad and hard for the family, especially for the children and for Flora, but this cat met the true love of a family in the last two years of its life and that is extremely comforting.
Dexter’s family decided to give another homeless cat the opportunity to live a beautiful life as he did in his later years, they now have a beautiful 1 year old cat named Trixie in their home.
