Quenton Eugene Mathis, 26, of Headland, Alabama, will have to spend six years of his life in prison. This man has been condemned for letting his dogs starve to the point of attacking each other for food.
Sheriff’s department authorities along with the Henry County Human Resources Department conducted a home visit to Eugene and his 26-year-old wife Ashley Nicole Mathis on December 1 to claim custody of their 4-year-old son from age, but to their surprise, no one was home and in return they found four dying pit bulls tied with chains to some trees. Upon entering the house they discovered the half-eaten corpse of a dog and another nearby dog that had resorted to killing and eating it to survive.
Man has been convicted of starving his dogs
Upon conducting a thorough investigation, authorities discovered that Eugene and his family had fled three weeks earlier, leaving the six dogs stranded at home, none of whom had tasted food or water for several weeks.
Trial Judge Larry Anderson sentenced Quenton Eugene Mathis to one year in prison for each of the dogs found under his responsibility. This November 4 there will be a hearing where the possibility of granting this man conditional freedom will be discussed, however, Mathis is in prison at the moment due to a positive test for marijuana in court.
