Man left everything to travel with his ferret after going through the most difficult stage of his life
This 25-year-old man decided to give up everything to go on a journey with his peculiar friend; a ferret who saved his life after falling into depression due to the loss of three of the most important people to him.
The death of a loved one is without doubt one of the most difficult griefs of our lives, and Charles Hammerton , 25, of Falmouth, Cornwall, England, had to cope with the loss of his birth mother, adoptive mother and of your best friend in the span of a year. For this reason, he decided to get rid of everything and go on a trip together with his ferret named Bandit.
This man knew he needed to take drastic measures, otherwise depression would take over his life. So he quit his job in the Royal Air Force, sold his possessions including three cars, and went on an adventure through Europe with Bandit.
Charlie bought a motorhome or motorhome and visited 14 countries with his peculiar company.
He left everything to travel with his ferret and overcome depression
It was very easy for him to take care of the ferret, as like a puppy, he adapted a leash, allowed it to enter his jacket when it was cold, and kept it cool in the heat with a cold bag.
Charlie dijo a Bored Panda:
“We used to carry a cold bag with us everywhere so that he would stay out of the heat, especially in places like Pompeii …”
Unfortunately, a week after completing the European adventures, Bandit passed away. This event may have caused a strong relapse for Charlie, but it was actually an impetus to further take charge of his life and raise awareness about mental health.
He wrote a book called ‘Before Our Adventures’ recounting how he overcame his suicide attempts, homelessness and a series of all family deaths with the help of Bandit the ferret.
Charlie has some advice for people who have been going through difficult situations like him, and the main one of all is that obstacles, whatever they are, help us reveal who we really are and what we are capable of, so to quit would be to take him away. to the world a teaching that we can give. Therefore, while we are alive there is much to be gained.
The man also decided to start his own business called Adventure Bandits, where he teaches children to value nature and develop the ancient skill of bushcraft.
Charlie wants to inspire people and continue the Bandit legacy by encouraging everyone who feels tied down at work or school to travel even though they are afraid to do so.
Charlie said:
“Start small and build! I still remember the first ride I did with Bandit. I had dreams of seeing some amazing places, and I always knew that I would, I was never convinced that I couldn’t see these places.
Charlie recommends writing down the target destination you want to go to and sticking it on the bed so that even though you are going through the darkest times, you will find a reason to achieve that goal.
Traveling was the best experience of life for this man, it was very liberating to follow the sun around the world, escape under the stars and see incredible places together with his best friend.

“I have less money now but I am much richer as a person.”
In March 2017, Charlie lost his mother who was only 53 years old. After that, his best friend Will Moss passed away at the age of 22, and that same year, Charlie’s adoptive mother died of a heart attack.
This friendly ferret has been with Charlie through thick and thin since he was rescued from an animal sanctuary in 2015. Suicidal thoughts were all the rage for Charlie, but traveling with Bandit dramatically improved his mental health.
Charlie said:
“It was horrible for me… I thought about killing myself a couple of times. He did not know who to turn to. It took a lot of courage to do what I did. At that time I lived in a nice apartment, had a good job and had three cars… But for me it was all ‘things’ and it didn’t really mean anything. I decided to get rid of the lot, and went with Bandit. “
